Inuksuk
Inuksuk is an Inuit word.
Inuk means “like”
Suk means “person”
Therefore Inuksuk means like a person.
The Inuit people stacked rocks many ways to in some cases
. . . point the way
. . . mark a good fishing spot or hunting ground
. . . the location of a cache of meat
. . . a beautiful view or to honour a elder statesman.
Canadians have claimed the Inuksuk as a truly Canadian Icon. We chose to use this Inuksuk to honour an elder statesman who received the Order of Canada, who is now an American citizen but has a Canadian heart and roots.
John Kenneth Galbraith is a giant of a man intellectually, academically, politically and internationally. A titan one of our own, born in Dunwich . . . Author of the much maligned “The Scotch” but truly one of our great sons of Elgin.
